PRP Injections
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is the concentrated portion of our circulating blood that is rich in platelets. Normally, platelets circulate in our bloodstream and are the first line of defense against bleeding. In addition, they contain an array of substances that promote healing in many different types of tissues. The use of PRP to heal a variety of injuries has been well established over the past several years.
The PRP procedure is a very easy, minimally invasive process that can be done in the office in about an hour. First, tubes of blood are drawn. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the various components. The concentrated platelets in the plasma are then isolated and injected into the affected area. Often we use an ultrasound to ensure that the PRP is placed exactly where it is needed.
